George Bangs is an artist and graphic designer. He was natured into being in 1995, and was subsequently nurtured into his current self by good friends and family. Sometimes he wonders, “can I really be a good artist if I’ve never experienced substantial trauma?”. He thinks good things should belong to everyone.
Society is shaped by design. Whether it be more utilitarian practices of civil engineering public and private spaces, or the more nuanced influence of visual and digital experiences. For better or worse these designs have the power to change how we interact with the world around us.
As a designer, my goal is to consciously design products and visuals that work to improve society, even if it only ever gets as deep as day to day satisfaction. William Morris has been quoted as saying “everything in a home should either be useful, beautiful, or both.” That was back in the 1800’s but it’s every bit as important today as it was then. Well crafted things should be available to everyone, and that includes design. (and here's his resume)
